The Ping Pong Co. League
Official Rules & Regulations
1. Company Teams
The Ping Pong Co. League is a recreational table tennis competition for corporate and office teams, based in Southern California. It is created and operated by Alex Figueroa, a table tennis and Sports Professional and league director, through his sports event company, Sports Gravitas.
This league is open to all company teams that meet the minimum participation standards outlined below.
1.1 Company Team Requirements
Participating companies must:
-
Have access to suitable equipment (at least one table with a proper net) and playing conditions (adequate space, flooring, and lighting) for recreational table tennis.
-
Offer at least two after-work time slots available for league play, whether for hosting matches or visiting other workplaces.
-
Provide approximately 2.5 hours of table time per home match.
-
Pay the registration fee for that season.
1.1.1 Suitability Assessments
If a company’s facilities are in question, the League will appoint a representative to inspect the space and report findings to the League Competition administration, which will make a final participation decision.
1.2 Company Representatives
Each team must assign a representative to handle scheduling and league communications. This person may be a player, HR staff member, or another company affiliate.
2. Teams
All teams must represent a company, sector, or professional trade and be approved by that entity’s leadership. Team composition and eligibility are determined solely by the company.
2.1 Roster Size
Teams must have 3 to 5 players. Rosters are due before registration closes. Changes are allowed during the regular season (within roster limits), but no changes are allowed once playoffs begin.
2.2 Team Captains
Each team must assign a captain as the primary point of contact for scheduling, communication, and rules-related matters.
3. Divisions
Teams are grouped by geographic area (West Los Angeles). Adjustments may be made based on playing level or to separate multiple teams from the same company.
3.1 Division Coordinators
Each division is overseen by a Division Coordinator, responsible for communication, scheduling, and ensuring fair and organized league play.
3.2 Division Format
Teams will play each other twice, once at home (home court), once away (at the other team’s home court). Matches may be played at neutral or third-party sites if approved by the Division Coordinator and both teams.
3.3 Scheduling
Division schedules will be drafted before the season starts and approved by all team captains. Matches must be completed by the designated season-end date, or they will be recorded as defaults.
4. Competition Rules
League matches follow ITTF rules, with additional league-specific guidelines provided prior to the season.
4.1 League Format – Home & Away
The team league operates on a home-and-away basis.
Each team designates a Home Court, which must be reviewed and approved by the League Administration.
Once approved:
Teams are placed into groups/areas and scheduled to play every other team in their group twice:
-
One match at their own Home Court (home match)
-
One match at their opponent’s Home Court (away match)
Each of these encounters is called a Team Contest (also referred to as a Team Match or Team Meet).
4.2 Team Contest Format
Each Team Contest consists of 5 individual matches:
4 singles + 1 doubles.
Recommended match order
Singles: A vs X
Singles: B vs Y
Doubles (Any two)
Singles: A/C vs Y/W
Singles: B/D vs X/Z
Team size:
A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 players may participate in a Team Contest.
Doubles:

Completion of matches:
All five individual matches are played, regardless of the overall score.
Match format:
All individual matches are best of 5 games to 11 points.
Scoring system (standings points for the team contest):
Win: 2 points

Division standings:
Determined by total points.
Tiebreakers follow ITTF regulations (Section 3.7.5).
Player participation limit:
No player may compete in more than two (2) individual matches within a single Team Contest.
4.2.1 Warm-Up
30 minutes are allocated for warm-up before each match. If only one table is available, teams may share diagonals or alternate. Home facility policies must be followed.
4.2.2 Defaults
The scheduled match start time is the official default time. If a team fails to appear on time, the present team should report the default.
4.3 Equipment
Home teams must provide a competition-ready table with a professional-quality net. If the net is not up to standard, a league-approved net will be temporarily installed.
4.3.1 Balls
Home teams must provide match balls. Each team will be issued 6 three-star balls for the season upon registration and approval of participation.
4.4 Facility Policies
Participants and guests must follow the hosting company's rules for the use of its premises. Visiting players play for free during matches, but additional facility use may require payment or approval of the hosting team.
4.5 Uniforms
Teams must wear matching shirts of the same color and design.
Including company branding is encouraged, but optional.
All players must be in uniform for all matches; non-compliance will result in defaulted matches.
4.6 Results Submission
